Pottery Summer Camp 2019

July 15-19 and/or July 22-26,  2019

After a 5 year hiatus where I was busy with other projects, and in particular helping to start General Fine Craft with Richard Skrobecki: ( check out THE place to buy gorgeous Canadian Craft: www.generalfinecraft.com) , I got back to offering week long immersive pottery workshops at my riverside studio in 2018. It was a fun and busy 2 weeks and I enjoyed having students around again so much. Therefore I am accepting a limited number of students again this summer.

What to expect:

Having a stress free, fun time.
All levels welcome: Including no previous experience.
10 am- 4 pm days spent in my riverside garden, outdoor teaching space by the beautiful Mississippi River near Almonte : a 35 min. drive west of Ottawa

I will be teaching from 10 am to 4 pm, but come early, have a swim, read, work on your own, grab a cup of coffee and muffin. Bring a lunch to eat in the quiet of the house or garden or in the sun on the dock. Stay on to mull over your day. Don't rush what you have been working on after class. A full week allows you to really cement your skills and work out ideas. Learn how to approach your work in a focused, supported manner with the use of all that is at hand in a professional studio: books, samples of great clay art, tools and experience. Making, decorating, design and firing will be discussed as we go along. There will be a project each day that requires investigating a different way to use clay using handbuilding techniques. You can follow this curriculum or come with a special project in mind: Whatever suits.

I will be selling the clay that is compatible for my studio:
The cost of clay will include bisque firing and materials fee: $30/bag*
* note: this year ( 2019): Glazing! I will be collaborating with the Almonte Potter’s Guild Studio for my students to be able to learn to glaze their work in a community studio similar to ones you might already work at or plan to join. These glazing days will be organized for several days in August. I will help those travelling a distance to pack your work safely for firing when you get back home. However we will be talking about firing and glazing with demonstrations throughout the week.
